“Mia Reay’s collection is a most welcome addition to the canon of English wallpapers in the best country house tradition. The designs have a rare freshness, the colours a unique clarity, which will make any room a joy to be in.”
Hand painted panels transformed into timeless wallpapers, each Mia Reay design is uniquely inspired by the beauty of nature, contemporary art and historical works of aesthetic interest.
Bringing colour, texture and form together through brushstrokes and inks, every piece offers an uplifting style with a quintessentially eccentric Englishness – where each roll has been intentionally crafted to show the singular intricacies of the handmade artistry.
Lady Mia Reay was born in Finland and spent her youth immersed in diverse cultures, travelling the world and garnering her deep love and appreciation of all things beautiful and interesting. Taking up painting at an early age, she developed her own style and over the years, a passion for interiors.
Having spent her entire adult life in the UK, Mia seasonally resides between places of outstanding beauty and inspiration – such as the English countryside of Ruskin, historic Scotland (her husband has strong Scottish roots as the Chief of the Clan Mackay), the Finnish seaside and London. As such, she has curated a very British collection full of eccentric charm, which complements her passion for global art and natural beauty whilst retaining a touch of her Nordic roots. The result is a collection of authentic designs offering an unmistakable sense of style that permits timeless grandeur and spice to be woven into even the smallest of rooms.
The designs are focused on the essence of what makes something beautiful, offering an ageless sense of intrigue to the aesthete drawn from a plethora of inspirations including ancient remnants of antique textiles, botany, birds and animals, architecture, jewellery and other aesthetic markers of life and social history. Steeped in all this, each design has a story to tell. Many are also purposefully made so that that owner can also be creative in their judgement as to how the pieces are hung, offering the end user an opportunity to become part of the creative process.
In addition to Mia being an accomplished artist herself, the design studio engages the energy and insight of a talented British design team, including well known artists such as Graham Carr. Each wallpaper begins as a hand-painted fine art panel, which is then printed and produced locally in England using traditional British manufacturing skills.
Ethical production is at the heart of our philosophy. From the materials to digital, the company works with care and consideration for the environment, using local and ethical sourcing, manufacturing and shipping.
